| SLIBCO PURCHASES KEYSTONE CONCRETE BLOCK |
| The Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO) purchased a 23-acre site today, currently the location of Keystone Concrete Block and the former Mount Pleasant Colliery, for the development of Mount Pleasant Corporate Center. The site is located between Linden Street, 7th Avenue and the McDade Expressway and within a Keystone Opportunity Zone. SLIBCO plans to develop the site into an office/commercial campus, consisting of five planned office buildings totaling 211,000 square feet and a total project cost of $7 Million. Construction is anticipated to begin July 2008. Federal, state and local funding to develop this site was approved by the Economic Development Administration, Appalachian Regional Commission, Business In Our Sites and the Office of Community and Economic Development. “This project is another dot to be connected in the developing an entrance to the city,” said Austin J. Burke, executive vice president, SLIBCO. “We feel privileged to play a role in the revitalization of the city, while redeveloping mine scarred sites.” Once they are ready, SLIBCO plans to sell the sites to private developers or companies interested in building at this location. $30 million in future project investments and hosting up to 1,000 jobs is anticipated with the completion of this project. SLIBCO is the Chamber’s ‘bricks and mortar” arm, and has constructed most of Lackawanna County’s industrial, business, office and technology parks. Since it creation in 1946, SLIBCO working in concert with the Chamber’s other development arms has developed more than 2,700 acres and has spearheaded more than 348 major development projects. These projects have created more than 20,000 jobs and have added more than $570 million in new real estate investment to the local economy.
