LABOR DEMOGRAPHICS & EMPLOYERS
The greatest asset of the Scranton area is our outstanding workforce. Numerous
prominent national corporations including The Prudential, MetLife, sanofi pasteur,
and Cigna Healthcare, just to name a few, have achieved record productivity here.
Workers are dependable, readily available and easily trainable. A new employer in the Greater Scranton area may expect to receive 10 applications for each job opening and will enjoy turnover rates of less than 5% and absenteeism rates of less than 3%.
John Rhodes, senior principal of Moran, Stahl and Boyer, a nationally recognized
site selection and economic development consulting firm is quoted as saying “It’s
almost like the area (Northeast PA) defines what work ethic is. People come to
work with an eagerness and willingness to get the job done.”
Top level executives from area companies were interviewed and consistently rated “above average” to “excellent” for workforce preparedness, attitude, accuracy and efficiency and were rated higher than comparable resources in the South, Midwest and West Coast.
Twenty four colleges and universities enrolling over 65,000 students are located within one-hour of the Greater Scranton region. Seven of the colleges and universities are located in Lackawanna County.
